Anchored Fiber Waveguide. (2005)
While pulled fibers have worked very well for stimulating whispering gallery modes in microspheres, a more robust technique is needed for microfludic cells and other applications. The anchored fiber waveguide uses a pulled fiber adhered to a thin substrate of fluorinated polymer to create a low loss, inexpensive guide with useful physical properties in aqueous media.
Lagrangian Data Assimilation (2004-2005)
Worked to simulate incorporation of drifting ocean buoys into ocean research. Focused particularly on ideal strategies for releasing such buoys
